Princess Eugenie Royal Wedding: who is the florist? Flowers and bouquet details revealed

Wednesday, October 17, 2018

Where did the royal tradition of myrtle begin? The tradition of carrying myrtle began after Queen Victoria was given a nosegay containing myrtle by Prince Alberts grandmother during a visit to Gotha in Germany. In the same year, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert bought Osborne House as a family retreat, and a sprig from the posy was planted against the terrace walls, where it continues to thrive today. The myrtle was first carried by Queen Victoria's eldest daughter, Princess Victoria, when she married in 1858.Read more: Princess Eugenie's wedding cake flavour revealed, and we defintely want a slice! ...https://www.heart.co.uk/news/royals/royal-wedding/princess-eugenie-flowers-bouquet-style-design/

Discovering Thuringia, Home to Germany’s Enchanting Christmas Markets - Vogue

Tuesday, August 20, 2019

First-time travelers to Germany may flock to the livelier hubs that are Berlin, Frankfurt, or Munich—but hidden from the crowds in the middle of the country is Thuringia, one of Germany’s smaller states. What it lacks in size, it makes up for in a high number of historical landmarks and figures: it is where the composer Johann Sebastian Bach was born, where poets Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Friedrich Schiller lived and developed their craft, and where the Bauhaus art and design movement was first ignited. It is also home to over 400 different castles and palaces, all of which are anchored by the scenic Thuringian Forest that holds a variety of different hiking trails.Visit Thuringia in December, though, and it really comes alive: it happens to hold some of the best Christmas markets in the world. (We’re talking next-level, capital-F festive, seriously postcard-worthy Christmas markets.) Every holiday season, communities across the state set up enchanting booths filled with plenty of local crafts, food, and wine. They are usually erected in the cities’ main marktplatz, though some of them spread their markets out across town, or even host t...https://www.vogue.com/article/touring-germanys-christmas-markets

On the Thuringia tourist trail - Inverness Courier

Tuesday, August 20, 2019

The state of Thuringia is in the very heart of Germany. It is packed with forests, more than 450 castles and fortresses, 16,000 kilometres of marked hiking trails, 1700 kilometres of cycling trails, loads of breweries, and its speciality is a sausage about 35cm long! With these credentials it is a great place to explore, and here are some of the delightful towns to see.The magnificent town hall of Erfurt, with replacement statues for the originals stolen at the end of the war.Erfurt This is the capital. It is around 1260 years old so has loads of old buildings, including a medieval bridge, 125 metres long with 35 houses built on it, the longest in Europe that still has people living on it as well as shops.Nearby is the Late Synagogue Museum, recalling the times of the Nazi era. There are two huge churches on a ridge dominating the market square. St Mary’s cathedral and St Severus church are angled slightly away from one another, leaving a massive triangular staircase to connect with the square below...https://www.inverness-courier.co.uk/lifestyle/culture-castles-and-kilometres-of-trails-in-german-state-181187/

Germany's Thuringia Seeks to Awaken Its “Sleeping Beauty” - Travel Agent

Sunday, March 3, 2019

Thuringia Garden Show in Schmalkalden // Photo by Maureen Stone Thuringia, a region branded as the cultural heart of Germany and located in the dead center of the country, has been primarily a domestic tourism destination attracting almost 95 percent German guests since the nations 1990 reunification. Starting with this years eventful German Travel Mart, hosted during Aprils final days in the cities of Erfurt and Weimar, the German National Tourist Board and the Thuringia Tourist Board have served notice they are on a mission to attract the international market, including Americans, to their hidden gem.The regions modern tourism handicap is rooted in 1945s World War II geopolitical outcome. The allied division of the eastern side of Germany put postwar Bavaria under American control and its northerly neighbor Thuringia in Russian territory. Thuringia and four other eastern states fell into the German Democratic Republic (GDR), under which Thuringian students were required to study Ru...https://www.travelagentcentral.com/destinations/germany-s-thuringia-seeks-to-awaken-its-sleeping-beauty

How the Alternative for Germany Has Transformed the Country

Wednesday, October 17, 2018

Left Party. The unrest in Chemnitz in August marked a turning point for the AfD. There, the party joined a phalanx of agitators and neo-Nazis, with the AfD's Thuringia state chapter leader Björn Höcke marching side-by-side with an activist from Pegida -- the anti-Islam and anti-immigrant group -- who has multiple criminal convictions on his record. For years, politics in Germany had been shaped by the old polarity between left and right. But those days are over. The question of identity now seems to be more important, which seemingly scrambles the party system. Sahra Wagenknecht of the Left Party is creating a new movement called "Aufstehen," German for "Stand Up," that she hopes will be a magnet for voters who would like to see a bigger welfare state and fewer immigrants. The move places additional pressure on the center-left Social Democratic Party (SPD), which has fluctuated between a culture of welcoming refugees and warnings of a loss of control since the refugee crisis. The business-friendly Free Democratic Party (FDP), meanwhile, has morphed into a law and order party. And the only thing still holding the CDU and Christian Social Union (CSU), the CDU's Bavarian sister party, together is the fear of losing power. The only parties that seem to be profiting from the new political complexities are the Greens and the AfD. So, how to deal with a party that fulminates against the mainstream with such abandon while at the spreading its own tentacles further into the center of society, into gov...http://www.spiegel.de/international/germany/how-the-alternative-for-germany-has-transformed-the-country-a-1227360.html
